He first thing you need to do is to learn to ride your mountain bike properly. There are certain procedures that needs to be followed in handling a mountain bike.

Mounting : When mounting your mountain bike hold the handle bar with both your hands. The pedal should be positioned in the two o’clock position then raise your right leg passing at the back seat part.

Dismounting : When you are about to dismount your bike gradually reduce the speed until you reach a full stop. Disengage your left foot from the pedal and let it touch the ground. Slightly lean your mountain bike to the left side then disengage your right foot from the pedal and swing it over the seat.

Shifting Gears : Practice shifting gears through different terrain so that you would get a hang of it.
