T-shirts are an excellent product to sell. They are universal, worn by men, women, and children. Everyone owns at least one t-shirt. They are not expensive and they are seen as a cost effective way to have an up-to-date piece of clothing, especially if the printing is topical.

Printed t-shirts with obscure messages may seem cool, but if you only have a few seconds to catch potential customers attention, you may want to go with a saying that is funny, innovative, or at least understood the first time it is read. For ideas, look in retail stores at busy malls to see what is being promoted, and try to improve on the designs.

While custom t-shirts with the latest pop singer or movie star may be selling well, if you don’t have permission to use their image, you will get in trouble. The same goes for popular brands. You can’t redesign a Nike t-shirt and market in using their swoosh logo. This goes for online sellers, those with retail stores, and individuals that sell at flea markets.

Don’t go overboard on the number of colors you use on your t-shirt designs. The shirt cost a great deal to make and you will need to sell your designs at a profit, yet at a price people will pay. Too many colors also looks jumbled, less is more. Black and white t-shirts remain best sellers just for their simplicity.
